A folio Afternoon

bookplate folio

Handmade folios

Yesterday, I made a small folio for a set of bookplates I was gifting.
Larger folios would be wonderful for artworks or a specialty collection of anything paper related.

For this small folio I used some paper I aged a bit and a piece of marbled paper. It gives it an antiquated look that I feel works well with this particular design featuring an English country estate and gardens.

This is the interior of the folio, I added glassine pockets which I made from glassine envelopes by cutting them down and gluing them to the interior end sheets (marbled paper).

I put them on both sides but you could just put it on one side and decorate the other side with some other image or a place to write a note to the receiver.

It really depends upon what your folio is going to be used for. Folios are also nice if you’re giving a gift card or gift certificate.

Here’s the folio showing the bookplates outside the pockets and the coordinating colors of the end sheets, plates and the ribbon I used to wrap around it when giving.

This was a relatively quick project that took just under an hour.

Of course, doing what I do for a living, I’m set up with all kinds of paper, ribbon, gluing options, and other tools such as cutting knives and sheets, so it might take you a little longer if you have to hunt around for this stuff.

If you’re thinking you might want to try making a folio, I suggest doing a search on YouTube. There are all kinds of variations and you might want something that is more complex with extra bells and whistles.
As for myself, I prefer the simple, but that’s just me.
